Data Management for HDV (High Data Volume) Assays

AssayMaster Server^TM for Kinetics is now available. A set of powerful CeuticalSoft modules have been integrated specifically to address the demands of kinetics assays. Large data files from kinetics readers like the FDSS and Flipr are automatically ported to Oracle using the FileFunnel module at rates in the range of 20 million data points/minute. This data is then processed on the server with a module-driven calculation engine that can run in a continuous duty cycle. Automatic data quality assessment can be performed and then reviewed and reprocessed if necessary.

 

Compounds of interest can be queried with their original kinetic traces and related control traces eliminating the need to pour over mountains of archived trace files. Combinations of traces can be compared regardless of the plate of origin. Related dose response curves are also available as independent entities.

 

All CeuticalSoft applications are part of a modular architecture so custom requirements can be easily addressed without “act of God” code changes.

Regardless of throughput classification, kinetics assays generate large volumes of data that place extraordinary demands on conventional data handling techniques. This impacts databases, analysis techniques, process automation, data transfer burdens and reporting requirements. Methods for adjusting to high data volume assays (HDV) that include shoehorning existing data systems, adding parallel systems and full replacement will be reviewed. Some discussion will touch on the applicability to high content assay data.

Effective implementation of a Drug Discovery IT outsourcing strategy.

Outsourcing Pharma/Biotech research IT can be very difficult to implement but with a well-planned strategy the benefits can easily outweigh the risks. Cost savings is the obvious benefit but access to resources is also a driving force behind the outsourcing phenomena. With the right outsourcing partner enabling a flexible allocation of resources, IT projects can be scaled rapidly and affordably. Success or failure of outsourcing often has less to do with the provider and more to do with the customer. This is because Discovery R&D organizations are rarely equipped to mange IT and have great difficulty specifying and implementing their goals. If your organization has a poor track record of defining, managing and deploying IT projects either with internal capabilities or outside vendors, then outsourcing will probably create more problems than it will solve.
